Design a Composting Toilet for the Sunzu Yacu Community CenterThe Problem...
The only latrine at Sunzu is a 10-12 minute walk from the community center. With an appropriate latrine design it should be possible to design a composting system that is both effective and sustainable. Our Mission... To collaborate and research an appropriate composting waste system for the Sunzu community. We desire to help to develop a sustainable solution that will serve the specific needs of the community by: limiting human interaction with waste, cutting down on cost, and empowering locals to learn how to reuse waste for the purpose of agricultural soil. |

IDEAS
The Best Composting Toilet for the People
We started our project by researching the different types of composting toilets and how the process works.
|
The members of Journeyman International in the Sunzu Yacu community considered our ideas and designed a latrine for the village.

Conclusions
Though they are still facing roadblocks, the stakeholders in this project are dedicated towards finding a solution for this community. The community is welcoming towards outsiders and invested in the decisions behind the changes. Journeyman International and the sponsor for the project are planning continued involvement in this village for years in the future, meaning that there will always be people around to help the people address the village needs. Overall, the interactions between the members of Sunzu Yacu village and the seemingly outside involvement has been collaborative and beneficial, which gives us hope that they will find a way for the latrine they build to have long-term success.
